In our Ultraverse journey there is an interesting distinction that we came across. This distinction is well known to many chefs but was very new for us.
There is a difference between seasoning and flavoring and that difference is in the function and activity of each. Seasoning is a substance or mixture of substances that bring out or enhances/strengths a foods natural flavor more strongly. Salt is an example of this.
Flavoring is a substance or mixture of substances that changes a foods natural flavor either complimenting it or adding something new to it.
