Flavor vs Seasoning what is the difference?

In our Ultraverse journey there is an interesting distinction that we came across.  This distinction is well known to many chefs but was very new for us. 

There is a difference between seasoning and flavoring and that difference is in the function and activity of each.  Seasoning is a substance or mixture of substances that bring out or enhances/strengths a foods natural flavor more strongly.  Salt is an example of this. 

Flavoring is a substance or mixture of substances that changes a foods natural flavor either complimenting it or adding something new to it.

Who knew !  :)  We do now and we hope this has been a bit of good and interesting information for those of you out there enjoying food and flavor!
